How Do Pregnancy Tests Work?
Not sure how to go about a pregnancy test? When do you take one? How do you know your results are accurate? In this blog, we answer all of these questions so you can get answers about your potential pregnancy. Get the clarity you need to move forward with a pregnancy decision.
How Pregnancy Tests Work
Are you experiencing a missed period, fatigue, or nausea? These are all common symptoms of pregnancy. Your first step of pregnancy confirmation is a pregnancy test.
Pregnancy tests detect the amount of hCG in your urine or blood. HCG stands for a hormone called human chorionic gonadotrophin which is naturally produced by the placenta during pregnancy. HCG is found in both urine and blood around 10 to 11 days after conception.
When to Take a Pregnancy Test
According to the Mayo Clinic, it’s best to try and wait at least one day after your missed period to take a test. Waiting this amount of time will give your body time to produce a detectable amount of hCG.
The timing of the day matters too. It’s recommended to take a pregnancy test first thing in the morning, as your urine is most concentrated at this time.
